New Hampshire Primary

Dennis Kucinich has requested a recount of the New Hampshire primary which somewhat surprisingly declared Hillary Clinton and John McCain victors.

As Ron Paul Sutton, New Hampshire episode shows, mistakes can be made.

Anytime there is a large discrepancy between the polling and the voting result a recount should be triggered. While there are concerns about privacy, the larger concern should be ensuring the result is accurate.

I am not saying that there is a conspiracy, but I think New Hampshire is a useful test for getting the kinks out of recounting and seeing if there are any problems. Recounting the vote shouldn’t be that big of a deal. This year’s election is going to be especially nasty and contested. Both sides should have utter confidence that the result was arrived at fairly. Not faith that the election was honest, but to know the election was honest. We might as well get in the habit now, so we know what to do in November.
